The approach of the solid tumor oncology section is to provide innovative personalized care in a mulitidisciplinary setting. Shared clinical space in the new Seidman Cancer Hospital and Breen Breast Health Pavilion facilitate the interaction between medical and surgical subspecialists, and tumor boards bring all members of the multidisciplinary team together for decision making. Members of the solid tumor program at University Hospitals Case Medical Center have defined disease-focused interests, to ensure the greatest patient care expertise and access to the most current treatment approaches. This disease subspecialization also supports our teaching and research missions. High-quality video conferencing available throughout our regional network facilitates communication between main campus physicians and those practicing in the community. Clinical programs for cancer survivors are in place for patients who have completed active treatment. In addition, a new breast cancer risk assessment program has been established in the Breen Pavilion. A robust palate of clinical trials is available for patients with early stage or advanced disease, including NCI-funded phase I and phase II developmental therapeutics efforts. Division members serve as principal investigators on investigator-initiated clinical trials, and we also participate in NCI-sponsored cooperative group studies and those supported by industry.
