Dr. Bonomo is an AOA graduate of , Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and received his internal medicine housestaff, infectious disease and geriatric fellowship training at UH Case Medical Center and the Lois Stokes Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He then joined our faculty and rose thru the ranks to become Professor of Medicine in 2008.
Dr. Bonomo's laboratory is internationally recognized for his contributions to the molecular and biochemical mechanisms for antibiotic resistance. He is an active member of five editorial boards including the Journal of Biological Chemistry. He is an elected member of the Association of American Physicians and the American Academy of Microbiology.
He is recognized as an outstanding mentor and teacher at the medical student, graduate student, housestaff and fellow levels. Bob has been recognized by numerous teaching awards including the Kaiser Permanente Excellence in Teaching Award for Basic Sciences at CWRU SOM. In 2008 he was named an inaugural Master Teacher by the CWRU School of Medicine.
Dr. Bonomo has a distinguished record of leadership and service at our Veterans Medical Center including eight years as past Section Chief for Infectious Diseases and current Director of our VISN 10 Geriatric Research and Education Center.
We are confident that he has the leadership, clinical and academic skills to maintain and enhance the excellence of our Medical Service at our Veterans Affairs Medical Center and to partner with the Department of Medicine to leverage strengths between the VA and UH Case Medical Center.
